Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows School!
Restoring the Vision:
Reverence, Respect, Responsibility
Located in the heart of South St. Louis City, Our Lady of Sorrows is a PreK-8 elementary school rich in Catholic tradition. For over one hundred years OLS has anchored the neighborhood, providing for our students both faith formation and outstanding education. Our school reflects the strength found in our steadfast parish community and its commitment to Catholic values. Our motto expresses it best: Restoring the Vision: Reverence, Respect, and Responsibility.
Taught by an experienced, dedicated faculty, our curriculum presents the required subjects of Religion, Math, English, Reading, Science and Social Studies as well as specialty courses in Art, Music, Band, and PE. But, Our Lady of Sorrows is unique in its approach: we challenge all students by offering ability grouping in Reading, English and Math throughout the various grade levels. Primary students are able to work at their own speed in Reading, all grade levels offer Math classes based on ability, including an Honors program for 5th -8th graders, and middle school students are challenged by an Honors English program. A school-wide anti-bullying program is implemented and enforced. Our Learning Consultant works closely with students and faculty of all grade levels to ensure success for struggling learners.
Always searching for ways to celebrate the whole child, OLS can boast of the wide variety of afterschool programs and clubs that have been developed. Our Latch Key Program provides care for students both before and after the school day. Pro-Life Club, Drama Club, Homework Helper, Chess Club, Yearbook, and the Bellarmine Speech Team are some of the ways students can become involved in extracurricular activities located conveniently on our school campus. Additionally, 7th and 8th graders learn leadership skills by participating in TOP 20, Peer Mediation and Ambassador Clubs.
Dedicated to restoring the vision established over one hundred years ago, OLS provides an environment where reverence is encouraged, respect is expected, and responsibility becomes engrained.
